The Free Foundation and Crawlspace Inspection

What I look at

  • Cracks in walls, ceilings, brick, and concrete
  • Doors and windows that stick or won't latch
  • Floors that slope, sag, or feel soft
  • Crawlspace or basement moisture, standing water, and musty smells
  • Drainage around the outside of the house

What to expect

  1. We talk first. You tell me what you've noticed and when it started. You know your house better than I do.
  2. I take measurements. I check floor levels, cracks, and the crawlspace or basement, and I write it all down.
  3. I show you what I found. I measure, explain, and diagram what I find. Then I give you the exact cause, the exact solution, and the exact cost.
  4. You decide what's next. If something needs fixing, I'll show you the options. If you go ahead, I'll see it through with you. If you don't, that's fine. I won't push.

It's free, and I'd like everyone who has a say in the house to be there so you all hear it firsthand.

About Josh

PTA and Certified Field Inspector

I used to help people get steady on their feet. Now I help stabilize the foundation under their floors.

I'm Josh Johnson. For over a decade, I was a physical therapist assistant in home health, helping people stay safe in their homes.

Now, as a Certified Field Inspector, I help keep those homes standing steady. Same goal, from feet to floors.

Both careers come down to this: listen, collect data, and provide a solution. No guessing. I'm also an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor, so explaining things clearly is second nature.

I live in Huntsville and work all over North Alabama and southern Tennessee. A lot of folks here are engineers. You want the measurements, not a sales pitch. That's how I work.

Questions

Is the inspection really free?

Yes. No cost, no catch.

How long does it take?

Anywhere from one hour to over four, depending on what I find.

Will you try to sell me something?

If something needs fixing, I'll show you the options. If nothing does, I'll tell you. Either way, you decide.

Will you do physical therapy while you're here?

No. I still hold my PTA license, but I'm not practicing. This visit is only the Free Foundation and Crawlspace Inspection.

Do you check the whole house?

No. I focus on the foundation, the crawlspace or basement, and signs of movement or water inside and out.

Is every crack a problem?

A crack means something moved. That's usually differential settlement, where one part of the house settles more than another. The measurements show how much it's moved and what it'll take to fix.

Who should be there?

The homeowner and anyone interested in what I find.

What area do you cover?

Huntsville, North Alabama, and southern Tennessee. Not sure? Call or text 256-727-3600.
